While breathwork offers incredible benefits, it’s not always suitable for everyone in every circumstance. Like any therapeutic or transformational tool, it should be approached with respect, awareness, and proper guidance — especially when practicing more intense methods.
🛑 Who Should Use Caution?
People with the following conditions are advised to consult with a doctor or trained facilitator before engaging in moderate-to-intense breathwork (like Holotropic, Rebirthing, or Connected Breathing):
💔 Cardiovascular issues or high blood pressure
🤰 Pregnancy
🧠 Epilepsy or seizure history
🧘♂️ Severe PTSD or dissociative disorders
💊 Certain psychiatric medications
👁️ Glaucoma or detached retina
Even seemingly simple techniques can produce unexpected results in sensitive individuals. Everyone’s breath journey is unique.
🧭 Practicing Safely
✅ Start slowly, especially if new to breathwork
✅ Practice in a safe space — sitting or lying down
✅ Be aware of signs of overbreathing (dizziness, tingling)
✅ Stop immediately if you feel distressed
✅ If exploring trauma-related breathwork, work with a certified facilitator
Some breathwork is energising, some is calming, and some is deeply cathartic. Knowing your own limits and listening to your body is key.
